The United States Dawoodi Bohra Community
The Dawoodi Bohras have called the United States of America home for several decades with over 5,000 families living in 30 communities spread across the country. We worship at places of worship throughout the United States, and have lived and worked peacefully in this country for many years. Despite our relatively small numbers, Bohras all over the United States play important roles in their local societies.
The Dawoodi Bohras are Muslims hailing mainly from the Indian subcontinent. We also have large numbers in Pakistan, Yemen, East Africa and the Middle East, as well as growing populations in Europe, North America, South East Asia and Australia.
Bohras throughout the world are guided by the leader, the al-Dai al-Mutlaq. His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin is the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq and resides in India.
Dawoodi Bohras are united by a set of centuries-old principles: an unwavering commitment to our faith; a belief in the value of society, education, hard work and equal rights for men and women; engagement with other faiths; personal physical health; and a responsibility to care for the environment and all creatures that dwell within it.
With a particular focus on hard work and education, many American Dawoodi Bohras are doctors, IT professionals, teachers, academics and successful business people. We are proud of the contribution we make to American society.
We invite you to contact us for more information on the Dawoodi Bohra communities in the United States of America. Or visit us at our masjids – or mosques – throughout America. We will welcome you and help you to make our diverse communities even safer and more respectful places to live and work.
