Inspired by Project Rise, the Dawoodi Bohras’ global initiative to raise the conditions of vulnerable members of society in a range of ways, volunteers from the Chicago Bohra community gathered and delivered meals, monetary donations, and warm clothes to the less fortunate on Lower Wacker Drive in the center of the city.
Wacker Drive is a major multilevel street in Chicago, running along the Chicago River in the Loop community. The underpass houses over 80 men and women without permanent housing, living in tents and make-shift beds all year round, and bearing the harsh weather conditions.
The Dawoodi Bohra volunteers met women and men who were doing their best to survive the snow and freezing conditions. They were extremely grateful for the fresh meals, donations, warm clothes and well-wishes from the Bohra community.
The Dawoodi Bohras believe that nobody should go to bed hungry, and such support for those experiencing homelessness is provided by Bohra volunteers all over the world on a regular basis. The Dawoodi Bohras of Chicago will continue to support vulnerable members of society in their city with food, clothing and essential supplies over the coming months.
