In coordination with McKinney Little Free Pantry, The Dawoodi Bohra Community of Collin County held a “Backpack and School Supplies Fair” on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at the Dawoodi Bohra Masjid Site in McKinney.
The community previously held a backpack and supplies drive where local residents and community members donated supplies or funds. A portion of the proceeds went toward purchasing and donating backpacks for students attending Plano Independent School District. The rest of the proceeds went toward purchasing back to school items for the Fair.
On Sunday, As part of the global Project Rise initiative – Dawoodi Bohra Community volunteers, including teens and young children, gathered at the Masjid Site with backpacks and supplies. Before 6 pm, cars lined up for the drive through supplies fair. By the end of the event – 120+ backpacks were distributed as well as supplies, including water bottles, lunch boxes, crayons, notebooks, scissors, glue, etc.
Sakina Ismaelbay, a Community Outreach Coordinator from the Dawoodi Bohra Community said “We were so happy to see such an amazing response. Our goal was to do our part to alleviate stress from parents facing financial troubles and help their kids start school happy and prepared. We hope to make this a yearly event.”
