Mayor Theresa Rich of Farmington Hills, played a pivotal role in the closing ceremony of the Detroit Dawoodi Bohras’ Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. Taking center stage, she presented the well-deserved trophies to the champions, acknowledging their hard work and sportsmanship. Mayor Rich, an advocate for community engagement highlighted the support and contributions of the Dawoodi Bohras of Detroit while emphasizing the significance of events like the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament in fostering inclusivity and collaboration among residents.
"I truly appreciate the longstanding relationship with the Dawoodi Bohras of Detroit. Their unwavering support and contributions to our community are invaluable," Mayor Rich remarked. "I enjoyed attending the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament in Farmington Hills. It was a fun afternoon and a wonderful way to bring the local community together!"
A Weekend of Athletic Endeavor
On a crisp winter weekend, Dawoodi Bohra youngsters gathered for some healthy competition through the exhilarating Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. The event saw 82 participants from across Michigan, and other parts of North America—including Chicago, New Jersey, California, Minneapolis, and Houston—demonstrate their athleticism and team spirit.
Over two days, eight competitive teams, each playing with skill and determination, competed at The Hawk, a local Farmington Hills recreation center, that buzzed with excitement as spectators cheered on the players. Many small, local businesses in the Metro-Detroit area supported the tournament as sponsors. Beyond the thrill of the game, it was the sense of community and support that truly defined the event.
Bonds and Belonging
Sports events like the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament are held throughout the year in different Dawoodi Bohra communities across the United States. These tournaments not only provide a platform for athletic expression but also serve as a catalyst for forging meaningful connections and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.
“I really enjoy tournaments like this for the bond that it creates amongst the players and their respective teams. It’s about enjoying the game and playing with integrity, all whilst having fun,” shared Huzaifa Hussain.
The Detroit community looks forward to organizing similar recreational events, providing opportunities for participants to improve their physical well-being, mental health, and social connectivity through the universal language of sport.
