This July 4th, Dawoodi Bohra communities from across the United States found numerous ways to celebrate what it means to be American on Independence Day as they reflected on their good fortune as American citizens:

  • The Dawoodi Bohras of Washington, DC hosted a Social Distancing Tailgate at their masjid to celebrate the 4th of July.

  • Bohras of Orange County and the Inland Empire held a virtual meeting with Senator Leyva, who represents California’s 20th State Senate District and who has long supported the Bohra community. The senator shared her thoughts on the pandemic, racial injustice, and her vision for the future.

  • Dawoodi Bohra children of San Francisco and Orange County participated in a flag-making contest, finding numerous ways to recreate the Stars and Stripes in the form of paintings, cakes, Lego bricks, dressmaking and decorated fruit.

  • San Jose Dawoodi Bohras held a socially-distanced raising of the U.S. and California flags at their masjid in Palo Alto.

  • Members of the faith in Houston were joined in their 4th of July celebrations by several public servants who sent personal messages, including Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, County Judge KP George, and Rep. Lizzie Fletcher of Texas' 7th Congressional District.

 

  • Portland’s Bohras gathered via an online video conference to share stories of their 40 years of history in Oregon with special guest Mayor Doyle of the city of Beaverton, who highlighted the important role that immigrants play in American society.

  • Members of the local Dawoodi Bohra community visited Bakersfield Fire Station No. 7 to honor First Responders and brave firefighters in the spirit of Independence Day.

  • Dawoodi Bohras of Collin County, Plano, Texas presented Mayor George Fuller and other councilors from the city of McKinney with letters of appreciation in recognition of their hard work during the COVID19 pandemic.  Local Bohras also expressed their good fortune at being residents of America and calling the city of McKinney their home.  In addition, the community held a separate 4th of July celebration at the site of their forthcoming masjid.  Guests took a driving tour of the site, complete with banners giving details of the project, and were presented with gifts in their cars.
  • In Tampa, Florida, local Bohras came together by video conference call to honor their American experiences, civic contributions and the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
  • The Dawoodi_Bohras community of Dallas hosted a virtual July 4th Pledge of Allegiance Ceremony and car parade with honorary guests City of Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer and Irving Police Chief Jeff Spivey.

Dawoodi Bohras throughout America used the opportunity presented by Independence Day to thank all hard working public officials in their local communities for their invaluable service during these difficult times.
