Ambassador Venkatesan Ashok, Consul General of India (San Francisco) visited Masjid-e-Mohammedi for a traditional Ramadan Iftaar (breaking of the fast) and dinner.Accompanied by Vice Consul Mr. Venkata Ramana, the Consul General arrived at 7:30pm and was greeted by Anjuman-e-Najmi President Mr. Moez Wajih, other leaders, and children from the community.

In his welcome address, Mr. Wajih noted the Dawoodi Bohra community’s long-standing friendship with the Consul General and thanked him for his many efforts over the years. The Consul General expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to share iftaar with the community and praised the social welfare projects spearheaded by the late His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed BurhanuddinRA and His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS. The Consul General specifically referenced Saifee Hospital’s significance as among the leading, cutting edge healthcare institutions in South Asia.

The Consul General was then provided a tour of Masjid-e-Mohammedi, in which the community shared the many historical artifacts that embellish the facility – including remnants from the old shrine of Moulana AliAS in Najaf, Iraq, the “Mishkat ul Anwar” glass light shade from Cairo, Egypt and wooden pillars from the original masjid of Syedna Abdeali Saifuddin Saheb (the 43rd dai) in Surat.

The program ended with iftaar of dates and “hariro” (spiced milk with nuts and saffron) along with dinner with community leaders.
