On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in February, Mohammedi Center was honoured to host fellow volunteers from Temple Aliyah and Saint Bernadino’s for our annual ‘Sandwiches for the Homeless’ event. Over 500 decorated lunch bags, each containing a hand-made peanut butter & jelly sandwich, a bag of potato chips, a bottle of water, an apple, and a handwritten note of encouragement and love, were prepared for distribution to several homeless shelters in the area. 200 bags went to the Guadalupe Center in Canoga Park, 175 for LA Family Housing in North Hollywood, 75 for Family Rescue Center in Canoga Park, and 50 to Lutheran Social Services in Van Nuys.
Thanks to a huge turnout by our volunteers from all three congregations, 500 sandwiches and lunches were prepped in just over an hour. Afterwards, our guests from Saint Bernadino’s and Temple Aliyah joined us on a guided tour of the masjid complex, and asked many questions about the architecture as well as the history of the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community.
For several years now, our three congregations have come together to perform the Almighty’s work and do our part as citizens for our neighborhood and our communities. Thank you to our partners at Temple Aliyah and St. Bernadino’s!
