SMITHBRIDGE ROAD CLEANUP ORGANIZED BY PHILADELPHIA BOHRAS

The Dawoodi Bohras of Philadelphia came together on Sunday, September 27th, to clean up Smithbridge Road of Concord Township, near their local community center. The Dawoodi Bohra Leader, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, encourages members of the faith to take an active role in keeping their local communities and public infrastructure clean. Inspired by His teachings and  a love for their local community,  Philadelphia Bohras young and old joined hands for this initiative.

“The cleanup event allowed us to provide a clean environment and show our civic pride for the community.”

Umema Kothari of the Philadelphia community organized the highway cleanup event with the intention of giving everyone a part in aiding the community. She says, “The cleanup event allowed us to provide a clean environment and show our civic pride for the community. Community members shared tasks such as ordering pizza for everyone, organizing and collecting supplies from PennDOT, and putting up the litter crew signs so that local traffic knew about the cleanup.” The community hopes to continue to play an active role in keeping their community clean.“The best part was bringing people from different generations together,” Umema added, “with young kids, young adults, and older adults working together for the same common goal. The commitment shown by each and every individual, from children to elders, was inspiring. This is what community means to us!”
