Mayor Regina Wallace-Jones visited the San Jose community mosque. She received a warm welcome by San Jose Bohras and the local community leader. The mayor toured the mosque and took the opportunity to learn more about the Dawoodi Bohra community. During her one hour visit, she also complimented the mosque’s architectural beauty and provided insight on the city’s residents. The mayor informed that East Palo Alto residents suffer a higher rate of COVID-19 cases and that half of them earn below the poverty line and are in rental housing. San Jose community members expressed their interest in helping to uplift the community and cited some of their recent efforts such as: helping relief organizations in food preparation at Martha’s Kitchen, bagging food at 2nd Harvest, bringing lunch to service organizations, and sewing and donating face masks to senior centers and homeless shelters.
The mayor was pleasantly surprised when the community ladies presented her with three boxes of 150 face masks for the city’s residents.
